Effective Fielding Mechanics
"THE PLANT - all players
"The Plant" moves the player from "Fielding the Ball" to "The Throw."
Hands - the instant the fielder catches the ball, both hands come
chest high into the body.
THE PLANT - infield only
Feet - the fielder uses the body's forward motion from the "banana
route" to carry the plant foot (the throwing side foot) into the glove. The
player positions the plant foot directly below where the glove hand just fielded
the ball.
THE PLANT - outfield only
Feet - especially with men on base, step forward with the glove side
foot. Step again planting the throwing foot. Take a "crow hop" ( a short jump on
the throwing foot) in preparation for the throw."

READY POSITION - outfield only
