HowToPlay.com's "Essential Baseball Mechanics"!!!
When beginning the 4-6-3 double
play on balls hit too far from the bag for an underhand or backhand
toss, the Second Baseman takes a short drop step with the right foot
to make the throw to second base (a playing tip in "Effective Second
Baseman Mechanics").
Many times the Second Baseman, when
not taking a cutoff, fakes the play in an effort to confuse the base
runners.
